April 22, 2007 Transposed Heads
Kalaanjali and Kanopy present a second fusion between Bharatanatyam and Modern Dance followed by Transposed Heads, a story that illustrates the endless war between the mind and body in this ancient Indian legend turned fantastical tale of the absurd!

The plot revolves around three major characters. Devadutta has a fragile body and is a man of intellect who lives by the dictates of the reasoning head. Kapila, Devadutta'a best friend, on the other hand, has an elegant and muscular body with great bodily strength and lives by the dictates of the body. Padmini is the beautiful wife of Devadatta.

During some travel together, the insecure husband Devadatta suspects the attraction between his wife and his best friend and beheads himself. His loyal friend Kapila feels responsible for the disaster and beheads himself as well. Padmini sees what'shappened and pleads to Goddess Kali for help. The Goddess orders her to put the heads back on the bodies. In a moment of despair and confusion, Padmini interchanges the heads by mistake! Who is her husband now - the one with Devadutta's body, or the one with his head? What will happen next? Will the body or the mind prevail? Please come and see!

Transposed Heads is directed by Dr. B.S. Sridhar.
